Natural building?

Our journey with Natural building taught us that it was not a new concept but an idea that is looked at differently all around the world. Building with a group of people who come together to build and share their knowledge, made us realise that manual labour was more important than the use of technology when working with natural materials. By making use of these locally harvested materials which are available in abundance, not only can you understand the context but it also creates a sense of warmth towards the building. When designing and building with traditional materials it starts a lifelong journey of conscious architecture that addresses diverse climatic, geological and socio-cultural expressions which creates no harm to the environment nor mankind. Choosing this path, proves to be beneficial as it creates a sense of harmony and balance to the ecosystem. In this manner, it also allows one to experience the process of construction with all their sensory elements, thus creating a special connection with the building”

The relevance and importance of natural buildings today

Our planet has reached an unstable stage due to the over consumption of the limited natural resources. Our ancestors who possessed a vast amount of indigenous knowledge, lived a selfless way of living with practices that were preserved for generations to come. But due to the lack of knowledge and awareness, our way of living has caused more harm than benefit to our surroundings. Therefore, as the current generation we need to reanalyse our actions to create efficient solutions to face our challenges. By creating more permanent buildings and infrastructure that have a longer lifespan, we can mitigate the hazards, preserving our valuable resources. Through this, the resources can be saved for a longer period giving the earth time to heal or repair thus fabricating a balanced ecosystem in the society we live in.

India being a developing country, according to the Census of 2018, a major part which being 65%, is rural. Rural areas have always been self-sufficient and therefore the migrants who move to the city wind up in strenuous situations. Although, if the resources available at hand are shared equally among the rural and the urban, it would encourage them to not leave their homes to migrate to cities but rather preserve their rich culture of local skills and practices. Through this, local markets and businesses can be empowered and not lose out on the unique indigenous craftsmanship which should be valued.

With the advancement of technology people are becoming more and more disconnected with the existence of nature around them. However, by practising or involving oneself in natural buildings encourages them to reconnect with not only nature but also with people around them. This allows small groups to come together and revitalize their inner self and the people around them resulting in a better society.

Following in the footsteps of traditional wisdom along with the ideas of scientific approach will provide solutions for many problems that are present in the society currently. By giving people the freedom of thought to build and cherish one’s home, results in becoming less reliant on industrial materials. It puts forward the various possibilities to use the available materials to create something else out of the ordinary.
Crisis– Need– Possibility – Creation

In the market today, any material that we believe is cheap has only accounted for the direct cost which is labour and material. However, for any product produced, the cost of the natural resources used in it, which have been formed over a millennium are not accounted for. If this indirect cost of the natural resources is also accounted for, the real value of the product would be much higher, making these products expensive. This way of production, has resulted in an over consumption of materials producing large amounts of waste. It is time we realise all living organisms and the future generations too have a right to enjoy these resources and it is our duty to use it wisely.

“As we all know climate change is becoming a fast reality, we believe that it is time that we all take a step back to rethink our choices, change our way of living,so let us join our hands together to save our only planet EARTH to restore it back to its former glory”
